The Romanian Orthodox Church is shaken by a sexual scandal after a priest in Alba Iulia was accused of trying to sexually corrupting a young boy. The Orthodox Archdiocese of Alba Iulia decided that priest Cristian Pomohaci is not allowed to serve any church service anymore for 30 days and that he has to bring evidence to debunk charges.

The priest has been called, he gave us some explanations, but according to our church rules, his is not allowed to serve all church services for 30 days and during this time he has to bring evidence to be exonerated,” said Eugen Moldovan, the administrative councilor of the Alba Iulia Orthodox Archdiocese.

He also said that the priest had denied all accusations against him, but he could not provide evidence to exonerate him.

His case has been taken over by the prosecutors with the High Court of Cassation and Justice in Bucharest.

Policemen and prosecutors from Mures county have started the investigation on Monday in this case after the priest had been accused of recruiting minors for sexual purposes.

The case was revealed after an audio recording of about 22 minutes had been released on the Internet, featuring an alleged discussion between priest Cristian Pomohaci, who is also known as a folk music singer, and a 17-year-old teenager. According to the recording, the priest would have hit on the boy and would have proposed him to have sex with him in exchange for money.

The recording’s authors claim that priest Pomohaci is allegedly talking to a young boy, telling him that “he is too delicate” and “a handsome man”, while asking the boy to show him “the male organ” named as “hammer”. The priest allegedly proposes the 17yo boy to have sex with him, promising him he will be paid.

Moreover, the social workers from Mures are currently investigating if three children are living in the priest’s house in Mosuni village and if the priest had adopted them some time ago, without the authorities’ consent.

Pomohaci has a foster boy, grown up now, who admitted that the priest is raising three girls.
