Father George Pyle has been assigned to Saint Anthony Greek Orthodox Church in Springfield, Illinois, effective February 1, 2013. The priest had most recently been assigned to Saint Elias the Prophet Greek Orthodox Church in Dubuque, Iowa.

Father Pyle worked for almost a decade at Three Hierarchs Greek Orthodox Church in Champaign, Illinois, until he was placed “on sabbatical” on August 8, 2007. The clergyman was subsequently suspended from the priesthood on June 16, 2008.

According to The National Herald, Father Pyle was suspended pending an investigation into allegations of a “sexual nature” which had been made by former campers at the Athenagoras Camp and Retreat Center. The clergyman was the program director at the camp, which is located in Wyoming, when he was a seminarian. The Herald also reported that the priest was treated at Saint Luke Institute in Maryland during his leave of absence.

Father Pyle’s suspension was lifted on October 13, 2010, and he was subsequently assigned to Saint Elias.
