Pennsylvania seminary officials were “saddened and shocked” to discover that one of their students was arrested in a Florida airport in late August – for carrying explosives in his bag.
The student, 21-year-old Roman Regman, was found carrying two hand grenades, a pistol, about 180 rounds of ammunition and five handmade explosive devices, Tampa police said.
Regman was bound for Wilkes-Barre, Pa., where he was set to begin his third year of study at St. Tikhon’s Seminary. He insisted that the weapons were used and no good, but police said that everything was functional.
“It (doesn’t sound like) the person we know,” Archbishop Herman Swaiko said about Regman.
