A 67-year-old man who evaded authorities for a decade was convicted Monday on a charge of indecency with a child.

Roy Joe Givens, also known as Bishop Mathias, will be sentenced by Judge Richard Roman at 9 a.m. today in 346th District Court. The punishment for a second-degree felony is two to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. He was arrested in January in Springfield, Ill., then extradited to El Paso and jailed in lieu of a $500,000 bond. Sheriff’s officials said Givens had been missing since February 1994, when he failed to appear in court.
