TAMPA (FOX 13) – A handful of text messages could spell trouble for a “beloved” principal.Hillsborough state prosecutors say former Tampa Day School principal James Larkin admitted to molesting a 14-year-old male student.

Wednesday during a bond hearing, the lead detective, Charles Brian Boswell of the Hillsborough Sheriff’s office, read some of the damning evidence against him — Larkin’s own words.

“That was a mistake. I didn’t mean to do it,” Boswell read.

Another text message from Larkin to the boy read: “I can’t take back what happened. It’s been eating me up ever since, too. I did it out of curiosity nothing like that was going to happen again.”

Larkin was arrested earlier this year during the initial investigation. Prosecutors say two others also came forward to say Larkin molested them.

One happened more than 40 years ago. Detective Boswell read the alleged victim’s account of what happened decades ago.”

“Mr. Larkin spooned with him throughout the night. He recalled thinking Mr. Larkin’s behavior was very odd.”

But Larkin’s attorney Lisa McNeal dismisses all of these allegations, as just that — allegations.

“This is a guy who has spent his entire life dedicated to teaching children,” McLean said.

After hearing arguments on both sides, the judge denied bond for Larkin. That brought hugs of relief from the alleged victim’s family, sitting in the courtroom.
