Former Glenview Pastor Dokos Pleads Not Guilty
Rev. James Dokos, the suspended former senior pastor of Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Glenview pled not guilty to theft charges at an arraignment in a Milwaukee County courtroom last week.
At his Tuesday, Aug. 26 arraignment before Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge M. Joseph Donald, Dokos was formally charged with one count of theft by trustee of more than $10,000, Milwaukee County Assistant State’s Attorney David Feiss said.
Dokos is accused of misappropriating $110,000 from a church trust fund while at his previous posting at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Milwaukee where he served as senior pastor several years ago before being transferred to Glenview.
If the court finds Dokos guilty of the Class G felony charges filed against him, he faces a maximum 10-year prison term and $25,000 fine, prosecutors said.
Defense attorneys have until Sept. 26 to file motions in response to the charges. Prosecutors have until Oct. 31 to respond to defense motions and defense attorneys have until Nov. 20 to respond to prosecutors before scheduled oral arguments on Dec. 16, during which Judge Donald could rule on motions or rule on the entire case, Feiss said.
The Glenview Journal was not immediately able to contact Dokos’ defense attorneys before press time Sept. 2.
Chicago Metropolis officials placed Dokos on unpaid administrative leave in June and are working with Glenview church officials to find a replacement senior pastor at Saints Peter and Paul.
