Greek Orthodox scandal deepens
In 2006, Orthodox Christians and others in Dallas were shocked to learn that the Rev. Nicholas Katinas, longtime pastor of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, had been accused of multiple counts of child molestation. He was eventually defrocked. This week, a fifth alleged victim sued the church. The man’s lawyer, Jeffrey Anderson, said of the Greek Orthodox hierarchy, ”They have done what we have so long complained about in the Catholic Church. They hide, shuffle and cover for [the abusers].” What did they know, and why did they do nothing about it? These hard questions deserve answers.
