SYDNEY — A Sydney man has appeared in court accused of trying to smuggle child pornography into Australia from Thailand.

Rajko Dobre, 44, of Liverpool in Sydney’s south-west, faced Waverley Local Court today on a charge of importing prohibited goods.

The court was told customs officers found eight DVDs containing child pornography when they searched Dobre’s baggage at Sydney Airport after he had flown in from Bangkok on November 18.

Dobre’s bail was continued today by Magistrate Christopher Longley, who adjourned the matter until January 8 at the same court.

Dobre sat quietly in the public gallery today, dressed neatly in a short-sleeve chequered shirt, black pants and black shoes.

If convicted, he faces a fine of $275,000 and/or 10 years imprisonment.
