Scott Forrest Nevins

April 11, 1985 – June 11, 2012

Scott, 27, of Modesto, California, entered into God’s loving arms on June 11, 2012. He was the dear son of Ashley and Diane Nevins; brother to Ivy and Nicole; grandson of Betty L Davidson and Roy & Jeanette Nevins; nephew to Jack & Teresa Shackelford, Kip & Merrin Davidson, & Hal Davidson; cousin to Hope & Anna Shackelford, Ben & Aidan Davidson; and preceded in death by grandparents Hugh K Davidson and Corena Fran Casey and Aunt Adele Davidson.

Scott was born and raised in Modesto, Ca., attended Fremont Open Plan Elementary School, Roosevelt Jr High, graduated from AP classes at Davis High School 2003, and attended MJC (’03-’04). He lived in Arizona for 7 years (9-04 to 2-11) and then moved to Oregon (2-11) where he attended Chemeketa Community College until his untimely death.

He worked as a teenager at Lyon’s restaurant (’01), the X-care after-school program at Big Valley Community Church (’01-04) and Giacomo’s Espresso (’03-’04).

Scott was dedicated at First Baptist Church of Modesto at 4 weeks of age, accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at 4 years of age at a Good News Club through Childhood Evangelism Fellowship at his parents’ home, and was baptized when he was 9 years old (’04) at Orangeburg Baptist Church. He became a member of First Baptist Church as a teenager.

A few of his accomplishments included being a Conflict Manager at his elementary school, giving a great commencement speech at Roosevelt Jr High School graduation 1999, attending Impact volunteer ministry Easter week opportunities through Big Valley Grace Community Church, attending The summit Ministries Christian Leadership weeklong Seminar in Colorado (’01-’02), being a lifetime California Scholarship Federation member and Phi Theta Kappa member, receiving a variety of AP & SAT & Governor Scholarship awards and Academic D block awards during high school, winning as Best Defense Witness at the Davis High School Mock Trial of ’02, and attending the 65th Session of the California Boys State program (’02) where he also received a scholarship to Occidental College.

Some of his favorite things were learning, camping and friends. He was a seeker who could discuss almost anything at a drop of a hat, loved camping at First Baptist family summer camps at Camp Chinquapin (’92-’00) and Casini Family Campground Ranch (’94-’95); hiking at Goat Rock State Beach and on a 3 day trip with friends; taking a road trip through Canada with friends, and most of all being with friends.

We have peace knowing Scott is in a better place now where all his questions are answered and where his mind and soul are once again whole. Services will be private. Scott will be remembered by family and friends as being kind, compassionate, caring, gifted, intellectual, serious and very cool! We will miss you for now Scott, until that day in the future….
