Archimandrite Alexander Belya

Archimandrite Alexander Belya is a cleric in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America (GOA). In March of 2020, he was appointed as the head of the GOA’s newly created Vicariate for the Orthodox Christian Communities of Slavic Tradition.

Prior to joining the GOA, Archimandrite Belya worked in the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR) and was in control of both Saint Matrona of Moscow Cathedral in Miami and Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker Monastery in North Fort Myers. In the summer of 2019, he was accused of forging a letter from Metropolitan Hilarion Kapral, head of ROCOR, attempting to get the Moscow Patriarchate to confirm him as a bishop-elect for ROCOR in America. ROCOR suspended Archimandrite Belya pending an investigation into the charges. However, in October, 2019, the archimandrite announced he was in the GOA. ROCOR subsequently defrocked him on February 5, 2020.
