Orthodox Christians for Accountability (OCANews) reported today that a question was raised concerning Bishop Demetri Khoury at a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese (AA). According to the article, Elaine Heider asked openly at the meeting if the archdiocese was still paying the bishop’s salary, as had been reported. The OCANews piece said that Heider’s question was met with silence.
Khoury pleaded guilty to attempted fourth degree criminal sexual misconduct in 2004, and is a registered sex offender. After a brief retirement, he became the auxilliary bishop of the Antiochian Archdiocese of Mexico in January of 2009, although reportedly his salary was being paid by the AA.
